John Wenham expects Son Heung-min to start when Spurs host West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (19 October).

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the South Korean’s return will be a “massive boost” for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Son has missed Spurs’ last three matches due to injury. However, in a positive triple injury update, Paul O Keefe shared via X (10 October) that Son, Wilson Odobert and Richarlison were all in line to return to first-team training this week.

Wenham recently speculated that Spurs and South Korea had made a special agreement to help Son’s recovery. This was a decision which ex-Spurs scout Bryan King was particularly pleased with.

Therefore, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – expects Son to be ready for Saturday.

“I think Son was actually pretty close to playing against Brighton,” Wenham said.

“As I previously mentioned, I imagine Spurs did a deal with South Korea which meant if he was left out of the Brighton game, he wouldn’t be called up by South Korea.

“Instead of all that travelling, he was able to remain at Hotspur Way and rebuild his fitness. Therefore, I expect him to be fully ready and start against West Ham.

“That will be a massive boost because his record against them is really good.”

Son Heung-min to return for Tottenham v West Ham?

After their disappointing 3-2 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium (6 October), Spurs need a lift.

Picking up three points against their fiercest rivals would certainly provide that lift. Therefore, Postecoglou will be desperate to get Son back out on the pitch.

Just as easily as beating West Ham could provide a lift, losing to the Hammers could also lead to quite a downward spiral. As a result, Postecoglou needs his captain now more than ever.

In other Tottenham news, the club have submitted a bid to complete a “big-money” striker signing.
