Billy Dodds has taken a swipe at Dynamo Kyiv and insists the Ukrainian club are there to be got at by Rangers in their Champions League qualifying second leg.
Rangers and Dynamo drew 1-1 on Tuesday night (6 August) after Cyriel Dessers bagged the Gers an equaliser in the dying embers of the game.
While speaking on BBC Sportsound (6 August, 21:33), Dodds shared his verdict on how he thinks the tie will play out in next week’s second leg at Hampden Park.
“I don’t know if Dynamo have got it in them, sticking and trying to see the game out. I don’t think they’re defensively-minded,” Dodds said.
“Sometimes the name frightens you – Dynamo Kyiv – and you think they’ll be brilliant. They’re not as good as you think.
“You can get at them. They weren’t brilliant going forward tonight. They had a couple of opportunities to damage Rangers and they didn’t.”
Rangers need to be more creative in attack
Philippe Clement’s side was let off during their Champions League qualifier against Dynamo after they managed to miss chance after chance throughout the clash.
Dessers was consistently finding himself in the right places but couldn’t quite get that finishing touch in the final third.
The Nigeria international did, however, did manage to redeem himself with his late strike that leaves the tie in the balance.
There were plenty of attacking moves, the vast majority of them coming from the two flank.
Near the start of the tie, Tom Lawrence created an opportunity in the centre of the pitch but after that, he didn’t have much of an impact on the rest of the tie.
Once Jefte entered the pitch at the 45-minute mark, the game was turned on its head, resulting in Derek Ferguson labelling the new signing as “excellent”.
If Rangers want to challenge Celtic for the title this season, they’ll need to buck their attacking ideas up and perhaps even go back to the drawing board in terms of how to create strong attacking situations for themselves.
In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson is baffled by “strange” Rangers’ recent transfer decisions.
