SFA president Mike Mulraney has named Rangers as one of the major economic drivers to boost profits.
He has also addressed the decision that went against them in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic last Sunday.
In his view, he thinks that the officials involved are hurting more than anyone after the controversy and the incidents that followed and has called on a good relationship with Gers to help reach £7million in profits.
Mulraney said, as quoted by the Rangers Review: “If I want Ian [chief executive Maxwell] to produce £7m profit for the SFA when other sports are struggling then we need our big economic drivers to be on board. To allow us to use that money to do good. So we have a really good relationship, I believe, with our partners and our members.
“It’s not Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen and Dundee United against the SFA. They are the SFA. They are the members, they are the owners. This idea that they are going to demand talks. Who with? Themselves? I am there to represent them, I am them, I am one of them.”
He also spoke about the controversy in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic.
“Knowing Willie and every single person involved with every decision that’s wrong, it hurts,” he said. “I am not sure it hurts them any more if it is a cup final than any other game. I really don’t think so.
“Every ref, linesman, VAR operator, all of them, it hurts them just as much as the centre forward who misses a shot from three yards out, the guy who misses the penalty, the goalie who fumbles the ball into the net and goes home and beats himself up about it. I honestly think that’s the case.”
Rangers cannot keep being treated the same way by the SFA
While Gers are indeed one of the major economic drivers for the SFA, contributing significantly to their financial health, the recurring theme of decisions going against them, especially in high-stakes games like the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic, cannot be overlooked.
The financial contributions from clubs like Gers are vital for the SFA’s operations and initiatives, as highlighted by Mulraney.
However, this economic importance should not overshadow the need for fair play and transparency in officiating.
Rangers, being integral members of the SFA, have every right to express dissatisfaction and demand accountability when decisions seem to consistently disadvantage them.
The emotional and professional toll on players and officials is acknowledged, but the integrity of the game must be preserved.
By demanding answers, the Ibrox outfit are not just protecting their interests but are advocating for a system where fairness is paramount, ensuring that their economic contributions are matched by equitable treatment on the field.
In other Rangers news, Nils Koppen is now being forced to enter the loan market to sign a Liverpool-born striker in January.
