Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has issued a response to the brutal Liverpool fans who told him he was going to get ‘sacked’ in the morning.

City suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, a result which means they’re no longer in the title race, according to Jamie Carragher.

The current Premier League champions have failed to register a victory across their last seven games in all competitions in a historic drop-off.

City have been unable to pick up a win in four consecutive top-flight matches for the first time since August 2008 and it is the first time in Guardiola’s managerial career that he has lost four straight league fixtures.

No-one has been enjoying City’s downfall more than Liverpool fans, with their team the only club to have stopped Guardiola’s dominance in recent seasons, clinching the 2019-20 Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp.

Some Reds supporters who were sat inside Anfield decided to taunt Guardiola on Sunday with chats of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’.

Guardiola was irked and was spotted holding up six fingers to Liverpool fans, to signify City’s six Premier League titles under the Spaniard.

The City boss was then quizzed about the taunting after the match and said: ‘I’m so proud for my six Premier Leagues against that team and the previous team, I’m so sorry.

‘I didn’t expect Anfield to start to chant at 0-2 that I should be sacked. Maybe I deserve to be sacked, honestly.

‘With the results we’ve had, maybe I’m still in a job because of the six Premier Leagues. Otherwise the higher-ups will think it doesn’t work.

‘I didn’t expect they were singing at 1-0. Maybe at Brighton they did it, but at Anfield I didn’t expect that. But it’s fine, it is what it is. It’s part of the game.

‘When you win you laugh, when you lose they laugh and you have to accept it.’

City’s defeat to Liverpool leaves them fifth in the Premier League table, 11 points behind Arne Slot’s league leaders after 13 games played this term.
