Ross McCormack believes that Derek McInnes could be the perfect manager for Rangers.
The Kilmarnock boss is understood to be the favourite to replace Philippe Clement at Ibrox should the club sack him. [Football Scotland, 31 October]
Despite Gers being 11 points off leaders Celtic, the Belgian remains at the helm.
Speaking on the Open Goal Podcast (26 November), McCormack, a BBC pundit, said at 39:05: “I think McInnes would get Rangers beating every other team in the league and then one off games against Celtic, you never know.
“It depends on how Rangers look at it. If Rangers think that they’ve got a lot of players on the books that are not going to leave because say that their wages are too high so they’re going to sit there. Might take them two to three windows to get rid of all of their players.
“If that’s the case then they’re not going to be paying money to get other players in. In that case, I think Derek McInnes is a perfect one just to get them through that rocky period and then look at a bigger name.”
Derek McInnes would bring stability at Rangers
McInnes could indeed be the ideal manager for Gers if they’re seeking stability and experience in the Scottish Premiership.
His track record in Scottish football is impressive and the Scotsman has demonstrated his capability by winning the Scottish First Division with St. Johnstone, showcasing his ability to secure titles.
Furthermore, his success in clinching the Championship with Kilmarnock adds to his credentials, proving he can manage teams at various levels effectively.
Over the years, McInnes has accumulated substantial experience within the SPFL, where he has not only managed teams but also developed a reputation for solid tactics and player development.
This experience makes him a safe pair of hands for Rangers, especially if they are considering a transitional period to offload high-wage players and rebuild.
His deep understanding of the Scottish game and consistent performance could provide the Ibrox outfit with the necessary steadiness to navigate through a challenging phase.
In other Rangers news, a former Gers player has labelled it a “terrible decision” to move to Ibrox and has branded it the “biggest mistake” of his life.
