Peter Crouch says £85m Liverpool target is even better than Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool have been looking at signing a new holding midfield player for ages now.

Martin Zubimendi was a target in the summer, while Liverpool bid £111m for Moises Caicedo last year.

Liverpool are still on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder, and recently, the Reds have been linked with Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid.

Liverpool will get the chance to see Tchouameni in action on Wednesday evening as they host Real Madrid in the Champions League.

This is a huge clash, and there has been a lot of chat about the two teams in the build-up to this game.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Peter Crouch has been building his combined XI of Liverpool and Real Madrid players, and he made an interesting claim about Tchouameni.

Peter Crouch picks Aurelien Tchoumeni over Alexis Mac Allister

Crouch built his Liverpool and Real Madrid starting XI, and he made a few bold claims.

Crouch picked Kylian Mbappe over Mohamed Salah, while he also picked Aurelien Tchouameni over Alexis Mac Allister.

The World Cup winner has been brilliant since signing for Liverpool 18 months ago, but Crouch believes Tchouameni is a better player.

This is a very interesting comparison. After all, Tchouameni and Mac Allister did face off in the World Cup final in 2022.

Tchouameni snubbed Liverpool a few years ago before making an £85m move to Real Madrid, but now, he’s back on the Reds’ radar.

Peter Crouch’s combined Real Madrid vs Liverpool XI

Crouch picked Tchouameni over Mac Allister, but he was very balanced when building his combined XI.

Indeed, the pundit picked his fair share of Liverpool players in this team. However, it was tough to deny the immense talent Real Madrid have at their disposal.

Of course, we’ve seen these two sides do battle on numerous occasions on the big stage in recent years.

Real Madrid have beaten Liverpool in two recent Champions League finals, while they also knocked the Reds out of the Champions League in the 2022/23 season.

The stakes aren’t quite as high in Wednesday’s game due to the new Champions League format, but bragging rights are still on offer here.
