Keith Jackson believes Rangers fans would be making a “mistake” if they go into their game against Tottenham thinking they’re facing them at the “right time.”
The Gers’ next two games against Spurs and Celtic are two of the toughest tests they’ll have faced this season.
Rangers will no doubt be looking to extend their impressive recent run of form and cause an upset in both clashes.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (10 December), journalist Jackson shared his thoughts on the Gers’ upcoming week of games, saying supporters would be wrong to take Ange Postecoglou’s side lightly amid a difficult run of results for the Spurs boss, who formerly managed Celtic.
“If there’s Rangers fans out there that think ‘Oh brilliant big Ange is having a nightmare, we’ve caught them at just the right time’ then that would be a hell of a mistake,” he said.
“Even though they’ve got injury issues and their form is bad, what I will say is I looked at his face as Chelsea were running away with things and he did look a little bit broken but we’ve seen that before with him.
“We’ve also seen them respond to bad results with phenomenal performances and rather than this be a good time for Rangers to be getting them, you wonder could they suffer a bit of a backlash here.”
Rangers and Philippe Clement have a lot to prove over the next week
The Gers’ form this season has been rather topsy-turvy with their performances differentiating depending on which competition they’re playing in.
They’ve been extremely impressive in the Europa League this term, in contrast to their up-and-down domestic performances, and currently sit inside the top eight of the league stage.
Their league performances have picked up in recent weeks too and there’s no doubt that their 6-0 victory over Kilmarnock and their 3-0 win against Ross County will give them some momentum going into their next two games.
Clement’s role as Rangers manager has been under plenty of scrutiny this season, but if he can somehow come away with two wins going into next week, it’ll no doubt be one of his biggest achievements of the season.
Only time will tell what the future has in store for Rangers and Clement but if things continue as they are, it’s hard to see how they won’t be able to start to chop away at the 11-point gap that currently separates them from the top spot in the Scottish Premiership.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement could make three changes to his starting XI against Tottenham.
