Philippe Clement job was 'hanging by a thread' at one stage of last 24 hours at Rangers - report

Philippe Clement was on thin ice as Rangers went behind in the Scottish League Cup semi-final against Motherwell, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported on its back page [4 November] that the Belgian’s job was “hanging by a thread” when Andy Halliday scored the first goal of the 2-1 win.

The Gers took on the Steelmen on 3 November at Hampden Park and made a second-half comeback with goals from Cyriel Dessers and Nedim Bajrami.

Clement now wants the Light Blues to set the victory as a reference point for the rest of the season.

Philippe Clement to be sacked at Rangers?

Rangers haven’t had the best of campaigns under the former Monaco head coach, with them sitting nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

The Bears have struggled to perform consistently, and the recent losses to Kilmarnock and the Dons have compounded the pressure on the Belgian manager.

With the Premier Sports Cup, Clement has a chance to quell the noise surrounding his future at the club, and an exit from the competition would have undoubtedly led to more questions being raised about his future in the dugout.

It was Halliday who gave the Ibrox faithful a scare as he found the back of the net, with Jefte’s poor defending summing up things under Clement at the moment.

Dessers and Bajrami were on hand to save the day for Clement, whose job was definitely on the line.

The win over Motherwell has set up an enticing Old Firm derby in the final, with Celtic winning 6-0 against Aberdeen in their semi-final tie on 2 November.

In other Rangers news, Andy Halliday was hammered on talkSPORT for what he did after his goal.
