PSG make decision on signing Jadon Sancho amid Manchester United’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte
It's said Sancho is keen on PSG, with a swap deal potentially on the cards...
Manchester United’s chances of signing Manuel Ugarte have taken a blow as Paris Saint-Germain are not interested in Jadon Sancho, ruling out a potential swap deal.
It has been reported that Sancho is keen on signing for PSG with the Ligue 1 giants looking at attacking reinforcements after losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.
United are open to but not pushing to sell the winger who has struggled since moving to Old Trafford in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund in a £73million transfer, making just 18 goal contributions in 83 appearances.
And sending him to PSG could help sweeten the deal for defensive midfielder Ugarte who has emerged as a top transfer target and whose days in Paris look numbered after he was left out of first-team training.
For financial reasons, the Parisians preferably need to move the 23-year-old on but they are holding out for €60m (£51.5m), a fee the Red Devils are not willing to pay.
A swap deal could resolve the matter, but that scenario now appears very unlikely as The Telegraph report that while Sancho is interested in PSG, they are not interested in him.
Manager Luis Enrique is more focused on signing a centre-forward and is content with his wide options like Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola
United remain hopeful they can find a solution before the transfer window closes with Uruguay star Ugarte keen on the move.
This season will be a big one for Sancho whose United career looked to be over a year ago after a public fall out with Erik ten Hag led to him being banished from first-team training.
He went back to Dortmund on loan in the second-half of last season but returned to Carrington in the summer, with the 25-year-old and Ten Hag resolving their differences.
The manager has hinted that he could play an important role for the club in 2024/25, even as a makeshift No.9 following an injury to Rasmus Hojlund.
Sancho played his first game in red for over a year in last Saturday’s Community Shield, coming on as a late substitute before missing his penalty in the shootout defeat to Manchester City.
He’s expected to feature again on Friday night when United kick-off the new Premier League season against Fulham.
