Tottenham will be willing to cut their losses and accept a £13million offer for Emerson Royal this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
Italian giants AC Milan have seen two approaches for the Brazilian international rejected this summer with talks now on standby as the Lilywhites continue to demand a fee upwards of £million [Fabrizio Romano, 15 July].
The European club’s opening offer of £8.4million was rejected by the Lilywhites [BBC Sport, 16 July], despite the fact Emerson has made it clear that he wants to make the move so that he can play regular first-team football [Fabrizio Romano, 10 July].
Although Hutton doesn’t believe Emerson has a future under Ange Postecoglou in North London, he thinks Daniel Levy will still look to “squeeze as much money” as possible out of any side interested in his signature.
“They paid a lot of money for him I’m pretty sure,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.
“An £8million bid is probably a little bit cheeky, but that being said I don’t feel that he is going to play and I don’t see his future being at Tottenham at all really.
“When he first came in, I thought he looked decent especially when attacking, but defensively I just feel that sometimes he can be all over the place.
“He’s gone down the pecking order now in my opinion so I don’t really see him playing.
“This will be one that will go on towards the end, Daniel Levy will try and squeeze as much money out of whatever team it will be and it will probably happen towards the end of the window.
“If they can get a little bit more than that, around £12million or £13million then I think they’ll cut their losses and take it.”
Will Emerson Royal exit Tottenham amid AC Milan summer transfer speculation?
As Hutton suggests, Emerson has fallen down Postecoglou’s pecking order over the last few months and it is clear that he will never be able to displace Pedro Porro in the Lilywhites’ starting XI regularly.
That will likely be the reason he is so keen to leave Spurs this summer and while his stance is totally understandable, Levy is not known for his willingness to let players leave Tottenham on the cheap.
Unless Milan meet Spurs somewhere in the middle, it doesn’t feel like this is a deal that will be completed quickly. The Lilywhites have set their asking price and they have shown little intention of lowering it for anyone.
The ball is well and truly in Milan’s court.
