Rangers chief makes new admission over Ibrox redevelopment work

John Gilligan has admitted there was not much expectation that Rangers would get the Ibrox redevelopment works done before the start of the season.

Delays in the shipping of key materials for the stadium’s Copland Road Stand forced the team to begin 2024-25 at Hampden Park, and interim chairman Gilligan has revealed even without the delays, there was little hope the works would be completed in time.

The Gers finally returned to Ibrox on 21 September for a 3-0 League Cup win over Dundee.

In the recent minutes from the Fan Advisory Board meeting on 16 October, as quoted in the Scottish Sun, [24 October], it read: “JG [Gilligan] acknowledged that significant lessons had been learned, noting that the scale of the project was immense.

“JG expressed doubts that even with the materials in place, the project would have been finished within the intended timeline.”

Rangers still have plenty to sort out

Rangers have now been back at their traditional home in Govan for over a month, and hosted Romanian outfit FCSB on Thursday [24 October] in the Europa League.

But while fans are now just glad to be back, they still have plenty of rightful gripes about the running of the club, who still seek key directorial appointments which have not yet been filled.

On the pitch, Philippe Clement was left reeling last weekend when Kilmarnock stunned the Light Blues late on to deny the chance to close the gap on Celtic and Aberdeen.

The disorganisation and constant admissions from those at board level are disheartening a fanbase who after so much past turmoil, simply desire a well-run club who acts every bit the huge footballing institution they are.

The Gers are straight back at Ibrox after European action on 27 October, hosting St Mirren in an already must-win league clash.

In other Rangers news, Clement is accused of part of the blame for one star’s injury record.
