Rangers close in on new CEO after Gillespie talks collapse - report

Rangers could turn to former England director of communications Adrian Bevington as they step up their search for a new chief executive to replace James Bisgrove.

According to The Scottish Sun, Bevington, 53, would be keen to take over at Rangers after St Mirren vice-chairman Jim Gillespie pulled out of talks.

Gillespie, 46, pulled out of talks to become Rangers CEO at the eleventh hour and chairman John Bennett is now looking for alternatives.

Bevington boasts extensive experience at the highest level of football, having had prominent roles at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and spending 18 years with the English FA.

In October 2022, Bevington resigned as a Non Executive Director at League Two side Hartlepool United and has since taken a job at a German football agency.

Rangers have been searching for a new CEO since Bisgrove left the club to join Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah in June.

Pressure is building on incumbent chairman John Bennett after an underwhelming start to the season for the Glasgow side.

Football Insider revealed (September 7) that Rangers would be ‘open’ to a takeover from American investors amid fan unrest.

A 3-0 hammering by Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season leaves them five points behind their fiercest rivals after just four games.

The club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League group stage after losing to Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv is also set to have a major impact on their finances.

Football Insider also revealed (August 14) that the club could miss out on earning an extra £40million in revenue following their elimination.
