Real Madrid have been preparing to go into the 2024-25 campaign with only three recognised centre-backs: Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and Jesus Vallejo, who barely played during his loan spell at Granada last season. They do have a few youngsters that can be called upon, but they lost one of those this week, with Joan Martinez tearing his ACL during training.
Despite this, Real Madrid are not prepared to bring in a senior centre-back, although they could opt for a younger signing from Brazil – a ploy that they’ve executed to perfection on multiple occasions in the last few years. According to reports in the South America nation (via MD), a move is being considered for Victor Reis.
Reis, 18, is regarded as a top talent in Brazil, and recently, be signed a new contract with Palmeiras that includes a €100m release clause.
Real Madrid may need to spend big to sign Reis, although they’ve done that already in Brazil with the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes and Endrick Felipe. There’s a decent chance that a move could happen, as they also have a very good relationship with Palmeiras, as a result of that deal for Endrick in 2022.
