Red Bull to take over West Ham? Keith Wyness reacts after confirmed bid

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Red Bull will not be in the running for a full takeover at West Ham after their investment at Leeds United.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the multi-club network “have got their hands full” at Elland Road.

Wyness has previously told Football Insider (21 November) that West Ham are “available” to bidders and he expects takeover movement in the new year.

Red Bull were previously linked with a takeover of the Irons in 2016 and now-director Jack Sullivan claimed at the time that a £650million bid was rejected.

The energy drink giant and football pioneers have since launched a minority investment at Championship side Leeds.

Qatar Sports Investments and a consortium involving NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal are among the other suitors mentioned as being potentially interested in the Irons.

Red Bull won’t return for West Ham, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think Red Bull are a potential suitor for West Ham right now.

“They’ve got their hands full with Leeds and the investment there.

“It’s an organisation, especially on the football side, who like to take their time and look at things closely.

“Leeds seem to be their bet, they’re going to work there and hopefully get them back to the Premier League.

“I don’t see them coming back in for West Ham.”
