Report: £55m striker admired by Mikel Arteta is in contact with Arsenal over 2025 move

Arsenal failed to sign a new striker this summer but they are already taking steps to land one next year.

Heading into the summer window, it seemed that a new centre-forward would be a top priority for the Gunners.

However, Mikel Arteta has put his faith in Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus to provide the goals this season with Arsenal instead investing to strengthen other positions.

David Raya and Neto arrived to strengthen the goalkeeping department with Aaron Ramsdale leaving to join Southampton, while a £42m deal for Riccardo Calafiori added to the defence.

Mikel Merino arrived from Real Sociedad to bolster the midfield before Arsenal struck a last-gasp deal for Raheem Sterling to add depth out wide.

Arsenal did target a striker this summer and they were confident they were the favourites to land Benjamin Sekso before he signed a new contract at RB Leipzig. However, it seems Sesko’s new deal has not put the Gunners off signing the 21-year-old.

Arsenal make contact with Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal monitored a move for £55m-rated Sesko earlier this summer but he eventually decided to stay put in Germany.

However, Fabrizio Romano believes Sesko will be available in 2025 and fresh reports suggest Arsenal have already taken steps to put themselves in pole position.

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are confident of signing Sesko in summer 2025 despite his contract extension.

The report adds that sources with a close understanding of the situation insist that Arsenal remain keen on Sesko and are optimistic about their chances of landing him. Contact is already taking place ahead of next summer’s window so Arsenal can pip their rivals to the Slovenia international.

Mikel Arteta had made Sesko a top target this summer and is a big admirer of the Leipzig forward. Arsenal are keen on reigniting their interest in 2025.

Arsenal’s patient approach to signing a striker

With Sesko deciding to continue his development with Leipzig this season, Arsenal didn’t panic after missing out on their top striker target.

Instead, the club started plotting a move next year to make sure they get Arteta’s ideal targets.

With the Gunners already so close to being the best team in the Premier League, there is no point pushing transfers that do not directly improve Arteta’s squad.

The North Londoners have adopted a patient approach to their transfer business and it could pay off next summer.
