Report: 'Extraordinary' Man United player has really impressed Ruben Amorim, he could now start vs Man City

United, on the other hand, are improving under their new boss, Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils are still not where they want to be yet, but they seem to be going in the right direction.

Amorim will be thinking about his starting lineup against Manchester City. He could hand a start to one player who has played just 389 minutes of football all campaign.

Ruben Amorim could start Mason Mount for Man United vs Man City

Mason Mount has had a really difficult time since joining Manchester United.

The Englishman left Chelsea and moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2023. Injuries really troubled him and limited him to just 756 minutes of football all campaign.

Mount has had his struggles this season as well and has started just five games in all competitions. That is really a shame, but things could change now.

Amorim has already raved about Mount since joining Manchester United, and it’s clear that he trusts the 25-year-old.

GiveMeSport have claimed that Mount has continued to impress Amorim behind the scenes, so much so that he is now in contention to start the big Manchester derby on Sunday.

The England midfielder was a substitute in each of United’s last two games – against Nottingham Forest and Viktoria Plzen.

It remains to be seen whose place Mount will take in the starting lineup if he gets the nod at the Etihad.

Mount’s talent is unquestionable – when he is fit and firing, there are very few players in the country who can do what he does.

The Chelsea old-boy, hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by Bojan Krkic Sr on Sport, knows what it takes to beat Manchester City, but he has ended up on the wrong side as well.

Over the years, Mount has played 11 times against Manchester City in all competitions. He has been on the winning side on four occasions but has lost the other seven games.

Mount has never scored against City, but he has an assist. He picked that up on the biggest stage of them all – the Champions League final.
