Report: ‘Incredible’ Liverpool player now trying to leave Anfield before tonight’s deadline

Liverpool have been one of the quietest teams in the transfer window this summer, with today’s deadline expected to be a tame affair for the Reds.

This week saw the Anfield side finally confirm the arrivals of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa, with Liverpool also set to loan out Stefan Bajcetic to RB Salzburg having knocked back an approach from FC Barcelona.

With no players currently slated to arrive at Liverpool, the focus of deadline day will be all about departures, with Ben Doak one such player who could depart on loan in the coming hours.

Yet another Liverpool is pushing to leave Anfield before tonight’s deadline.

Nat Phillips pushing to to leave Liverpool today

According to the Daily Mail, defender Nat Phillips is keen to depart Liverpool today with the centre-back spending last season out on loan with Celtic and Cardiff City.

Once hailed by Jurgen Klopp as ‘incredible’ via Sky Sports News, Phillips has not been part of Liverpool’s first-team plans for some years, with the 27-year-old defender struggling in recent windows to find a new permanent home.

And this summer has been no exception, with the Bolton-born centre-back hardly linked with anyone this window with the defender currently set for another few months sat on the bench waiting for a chance to prove his worth.

Indeed, Phillips leaving Liverpool today will be quite the result for the Reds, and for all parties involved, the defender departing Anfield will be an ideal solution given how important it is for the centre-back to get his career back up and running.

Reds should have sorted out Phillips’ departure much sooner

Liverpool have been slow to react to transfer matters this summer, and the departure of Phillips is one such example of the Reds taking far too long to resolve a problem that could have been sorted weeks ago.

The 27-year-old defender is once again staring down a life in the reserves with a move unlikely to happen in the final moments of the transfer window, with Phillips still on Liverpool’s books come deadline day.

And for Liverpool, they deserve criticism for how they’ve gone about trying to sell Phillips, with the Anfield side taking far too long to make a deal happen with any interested party behind the scenes.
