Liverpool may have to start to learn to live without Mohamed Salah in the near future.
Salah is now into the final year of his contract at Anfield, and he could be leaving the club next summer.
The Saudi Pro League are still keen on Salah, and while Salah is said to be happy at Liverpool, a new challenge could tempt him away from Anfield.
If Salah leaves, Liverpool will, of course, need a replacement.
Federico Chiesa looks unlikely to fill that role due to his constant injury issues, so Liverpool may have to dip into the transfer market to find a new winger.
Luckily, Liverpool are alert to this situation, and according to Sky Sports, the Reds are already monitoring two Premier League stars.
Liverpool are scouting Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo
According to Sky, Liverpool are having a real look at Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.
Both players have started this season brilliantly, and they appear to have caught Liverpool’s eye.
Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Semenyo as of late as they search for a Bukayo Saka backup.
Richard Hughes, of course, will know Semenyo well from his time at Bournemouth after his spell as the Cherries’ Sporting Director.
However, perhaps Mbeumo is the more interesting of the two options here for Liverpool
Mbeumo compared to Mohamed Salah
Mbeumo has really kicked on this season as he’s become Brentford’s main man in the absence of Ivan Toney.
Mbeumo has been the go-to man for Thomas Frank’s side as of late, and he’s been utterly brilliant
Bryan Mbeumo 2024/25 Mohamed Salah 2024/25 Games 9 9 Goals 8 6 Assists 0 5 Top speed (km/h)* 35.94 34.3
As you can see, Mbeumo’s numbers this season stack up with Salah’s in terms of goalscoring, albeit he does need to improve creatively.
Of course, that is a small sample size, and Salah has been putting up those elite figures for the best part of a decade, but Mbeumo is only 25, and at that age, Salah was only just really hitting his stride.
If Mbeumo joins a team that plays a more expansive style and is more ball-dominant, there’s no reason why he couldn’t become a star in the same way Salah has at Liverpool.
The Reds may need to replace Salah next summer, and Mbeumo is certainly an option they should keep in mind.
