Report: Liverpool have made £50m PL centre-back their top target to replace Virgil van Dijk

Arne Slot has enjoyed a fabulous start to his Liverpool career.

Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League after their 2-2 draw with Arsenal on the weekend.

There’s a growing belief around Merseyside that a second Premier League title could genuinely be in reach and it could be the last time for a number of their players to achieve that feat.

Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are all out of contract at the end of the year – putting their future into major doubt.

With that said, it’s just come to light that Liverpool have now identified van Dijk’s potential successor.

Liverpool want Murillo

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have made Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo their top target to replace van Dijk, if he were to leave Anfield upon the expiry of his contract.

The Reds are already drawing up a list of potential targets to replace the Dutchman and Murillo is thought to be at the summit of their shortlist.

TBR reported earlier this month that Sevilla’s Loic Bade is another centre-back Liverpool are eyeing ahead of the 2025 summer window.

However, it’s Murillo who seems to be the priority and club chiefs are planning to monitor him until the end of the season before making a decision on whether to formalise their interest.

Murillo is valued at around £50m.

Goncalo Inacio also on Liverpool’s shortlist

As well as Murillo and Bade, Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio is also thought to be among Liverpool’s list of targets.

Liverpool considered signing Inacio in the summer but faced competition from Arsenal for his signature.

Ultimately, he remained in Portugal but with Sporting manager Ruben Amorim now set to take charge of Manchester United, perhaps the Red Devils could provide Liverpool with further competition next year.
