2022/2023 Italian Serie A Champions, Napoli, are looking to favour AC Milan in their pursuit of Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, over other clubs, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 25-year-old striker joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in September after he fell out of favour with the club’s hierarchy for attempting an exit. The former LOSC Lille man wanted to leave Italy and Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Arsenal were the big names linked to Osimhen, amidst interest from the Saudi Pro League.
The big obstacle was Osimhen’s €130m release clause, which wasn’t a financially convenient buy-out for the European clubs.
A move to Galatasaray paved the way for the former VfL Wolfsburg man. His contract with Napoli was extended till the summer of 2027 and the release clause was lowered from €130m to €75m (for clubs outside of the Italian Serie A), just before he joined Okan Buruk’s side on loan.
The Super Eagles forward has continued to bang in goals in Turkïye and interest in him remain constant, and one of the clubs interested is AC Milan.
As per Pianeta Milan, the Rossoneri wanted Osimhen before he joined Galatasaray, but his wages were too much to shoulder, and instead, they went for Tammy Abraham. However, the Paulo Fonseca’s side are eyeing a summer move for Osimhen and are willing to include Portuguese winger, Rafael Leao, in the swap deal.
With Napoli’s price tag still at an all-time high for clubs outside Italy, Milan hope to use this to their advantage by going all out for Osimhen when Tammy Abraham’s loan spell comes to an end. It would also build a rapport between the two Serie A clubs.
Milan face stiff competition still, as Galatasaray and Chelsea are still very interested in Osimhen, and the striker has an ambition of playing in the English Premier League.
