Report: Player Newcastle sold is already impressing the FA, could receive England call-up
????
Newcastle did not enjoy the best summer transfer window.
Eddie Howe was forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to satisfy the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) – with both now impressing at Nottingham Forest and Brighton respectively.
In terms of incomings, Newcastle could only add Odysseas Vlachodimos, John Ruddy, Lloyd Kelly and William Osula – an underwhelming window which has contributed to a current position of ninth in the Premier League.

Now – after being forced out of Newcastle – Elliot Anderson could be about to experience a special moment in his career.
Elliot Anderson could receive England call-up after leaving Newcastle
A story from the Daily Mail now states that the Nottingham Forest No.8 has pledged his allegiance to England – despite representing Scotland at U16, U17, U18 and U21 level.
Sami Mokbel explains that Anderson had already submitted an application to represent England – which has been accepted – and coincides with the Football Association being impressed by his start to the 2024/25 campaign.
The Newcastle academy graduate only has one assist to show for his efforts across eight Premier League appearances so far this season, but has consistently delivered a high level of performance, earning the Sky Sports Man of the Match award for his display in Monday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Anderson – who Nottingham Forest paid £35m to sign – will now be targeting a maiden England call ahead of the November international break, the last under Lee Carsley before Thomas Tuchel takes over on New Year’s Day.
Minteh is also shining at Brighton – so PSR really did cause Newcastle a huge problem back in the summer.
Eddie Howe and Newcastle fans must be devastated to watch Nottingham Forest No.8 shine
Anderson was born in Whitley Bay and is a Newcastle fan, so the emotions he must be feeling – along with Magpies fans and Howe alike – are hard to imagine.
The 21-year-old seems to be enjoying himself at the City Ground, but there is no doubt he would have preferred to stay on Tyneside if possible given his love for Newcastle.
Anderson now finds himself in the strange situation of starring for a Premier League rival, despite nobody associated with Newcastle, or the player himself, actually wanting the move to materialise.
Should the midfielder now end up being named in the England squad, Howe will surely curse PSR for ever existing.
