Report: Tottenham expected to cool interest in £50m player after what happened yesterday

Ange Postecoglou may have to do without a player he has reportedly asked Tottenham Hotspur to sign this summer.

Spurs are ramping up their attempts to bolster Postecoglou’s squad and look set to seal a deal for Leeds United youngster Archie Gray. 

The Championship outfit were in need of a significant sale after missing out on promotion to the Premier League in order to stay on the right side of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). 

It looks as if Gray’s £40 million switch to Tottenham will do just that for Daniel Farke’s men, in a deal which could see Joe Rodon heading the other way. 

However, Spurs’ interest in one key Postecoglou target is expected to cool after the PSR deadline on June 30.

Tottenham set to cool Conor Gallagher interest

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been long linked with a move to Tottenham.

The Blues were expected to sanction the sale of their academy product ahead of yesterday’s deadline, with Ange Postecoglou previously requesting the signing of the England star.

But The Evening Standard has shared a fresh update on Spurs’ pursuit of Gallagher and claim their interest in the midfielder is set to cool. 

That’s down to yesterday’s PSR deadline passing, with Chelsea no longer in desperate need of a sale.

Yet, the outlet does note that with Gallagher entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, a bid from Spurs cannot be completely ruled out.

Gallagher move seems unlikely

While it’s no secret that Postecoglou is an admirer of Gallagher, a move for the Chelsea star seems unlikely at this stage.

The Blues are reportedly set to demand around £50 million for their academy product and it’s difficult to see Tottenham parting with that kind of money for a player in the final 12 months of his contract.

Gallagher has also made it clear that he would prefer to remain at his boyhood club beyond the summer, despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.
