Report: What Josh Kroenke said about transfers at team meeting before final day of last season

Arsenal are currently in a great place, having gone from regularly finishing outside the Premier League’s top four to challenging for the title once again.

For a number of years, the Gunners were a shadow of their former selves, but the club’s hierarchy and coaches have undergone a major rebuilding job that is now reaping dividends.

From Mikel Arteta’s great coaching and Edu’s recruitment to KSE’s club management and investing, it has been a real team effort to get Arsenal back towards the top.

The Evening Standard has now published an in-depth article entitled “Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal evolution: the next phase”, in which they discuss how the Gunners plan to dethrone Manchester City.

One section of the article talks about Arsenal’s constant desire to keep moving and never resting on their laurels, and it mentioned where the entire Gunners setup stands on the idea of summer transfers.

More investment forthcoming as Arsenal aim to never stand still in summer

The article claims that, long term, Arteta and Arsenal’s hierarchy are ‘united in belief that no summer can be spent standing still’.

Kroenke attended a team dinner on the final night of last season, at which as much was made clear, as per the report.

In addition, more investment will be forthcoming after a shrewd window of sales this summer bought Arsenal further breathing space within Profit and Sustainability rules, added the report.

Arsenal have finally got recruitment down to a tee

Arsenal have made great progress with each passing season since Arteta took the reins and now look like they could finally break Man City’s monopoly on the title.

Paul Merson recently spoke about how the Gunners are now as good at recruitment as they were when Wenger was at the helm and David Dein was in the boardroom.

“Arsenal do their homework now,” Merson wrote on Sky Sports. “A lot of clubs don’t get their recruitment right but Arsenal are getting theirs right all the time.

“Edu is the equivalent to David Dein now at the club. When Arsene Wenger had Dein by his side, the quality of player they had coming in was frightening. You can reel the names off for fun and it’s the same at the club now with Edu.

“There just seems to be a togetherness with Edu and Arteta that is working for the club. They’re singing off the same hymn sheet and that is helped by their Premier League experience.”
