Arsenal now have two wins from two Premier League games having beaten Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday evening.
Mikel Arteta was certainly looking to pick up a big result against Villa having lost twice to Unai Emery’s side last season.
Two defeats without even scoring left Villa as the only team to do the Premier League double over Arsenal last term.
Arsenal had revenge in mind on Saturday and got the job done – albeit with the help of an ‘unbelievable David Raya save to deny Ollie Watkins.
Substitute Leandro Trossard made an instant impact with a superb finish to put Arsenal in front before Thomas Partey wrapped up a 2-0 win.
Riccardo Calafiori on Arsenal win
Arteta can be delighted with a strong start to the new Premier League season.
Two games, two wins, four goals, two clean sheets – this has been very solid from Arsenal as they chase the Premier League title.
Arsenal were even able to hand a Premier League debut to new signings Riccardo Calafiori.
The Italian replaced Jurrien Timber at left back as he was given a cameo late on.
Calafiori was praised as ‘very combative’ by Gary Neville and even found time to clash with Emiliano Martinez.
Arteta will be pleased to have introduced Calafiori to Premier League action and the defender has taken to Instagram to react to Saturday’s result.
‘Attitude makes the difference’ stated Calafiori, summing up the kind of mentality which has seen Arsenal become a real force under Arteta; it isn’t just about talent, it’s the attitude too.
‘Happy for my Premier League debut and for the important win, let’s keep going guys’ he added, immediately looking ahead to future fixtures.
Declan Rice passed on his love for his new Arsenal teammate, simply stating ‘my guy’ as the defender settles in after signing from Bologna.
Calafiori chances will come
Arsenal clearly have major faith in Calafiori having invested big money in him this summer.
Arteta is easing Calafiori into action though, starting with a substitute appearance against Aston Villa.
It may be that way for a little while for Calafiori but the chances to start will come once Arsenal’s schedule gets a little busier.
League Cup and Champions League games are on the horizon and Calafiori will certainly be needed very soon.
Calafiori is already impressing teammates with Ben White praising him for his displays in Arsenal training sessions.
Whether it’s at left back or centre back, Calafiori will make his presence known – and Saturday was just the start for him in this fine Arsenal team.
