'Ridiculous' - BBC pundit issues verdict on under-fire Rangers star ahead of Celtic clash

Scott Allan believes that James Tavernier will play as Rangers take on Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday.

Philippe Clement’s side are set for the second big test of the weekend after the Tottenham Hotspur Europa League clash when they square off against their arch rivals at Hampden Park.

The Belgian is yet to win an Old Firm derby and the last time the two sides met, the Hoops picked up a 3-0 victory at Parkhead.

Allan, a BBC pundit, told PLZ Soccer at 32:05: “I know those kind of numbers for a right-back are ridiculous, to be honest. I think he’s been a great servant to Rangers. He’s been there through a lot. I’m sure he plays [v Celtic].”

Philippe Clement has to prove he’s the best long-term fit for Rangers

Gers take on their rivals in the Scottish League Cup final with the weight of expectation heavily resting on Clement to demonstrate his managerial prowess in the Old Firm context.

Despite being the underdogs due to Celtic’s current form and the strength in the ranks, this match presents a pivotal moment for the Belgian to showcase his ability to lead the Ibrox outfit to victory against their fierce rivals.

Tavernier’s potential participation despite recent struggles, as suggested by Allan, underscores his importance not just for his defensive contributions but for his leadership on the pitch.

While there exists a perceived gulf in quality, this should not deter Rangers from performing.

For Clement, this isn’t just about winning a trophy but about proving he can navigate the club through one of its most challenging fixtures, thereby affirming his suitability as the long-term manager.

There are no excuses for not showing up in this one and anyone involved with Gers will say exactly that.

In other Rangers news, the club have been savaged for the “shambolic” manner they have handled the qualms of a first-team player at Ibrox.
