Ruben Amorim names four Man Utd stars with a ‘time limit’ after Arsenal defeat
Amorim suffered his first defeat as United boss.
Four Manchester United stars are playing with ‘time limits’ with Ruben Amorim still trying to find balance in his side after the defeat to Arsenal.
The Gunners secured a 2-0 victory over United at the Emirates on Wednesday night with the visitors undone by some masterful corner kick routines devised by Mikel Arteta and his staff.
United were without the suspended Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez with Luke Shaw also sidelined again with a fresh injury problem.
Harry Maguire started his first game since October with Mason Mount starting his first in the league since August.
Tyrell Malacia meanwhile was playing in the Premier League for the first time since May 2023, having made his return from a long-term knee injury in the Europa League last week.
Leny Yoro meanwhile came off the bench in the second-half for his long-awaited debut having recovered from a fractured metatarsal suffered in pre-season.
With so many players only getting back to fitness, Amorim underlined the need to exercise caution in his selection decisions.
Quizzed on his rotation decisions with Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo starting on the bench on Wednesday night, Amorim said in his post-match press conference: ‘It’s not because I like to change all the time but because I like to have all the squad fit.
‘So for example, Harry Maguire has a time limit, Tyrell Malacia has a time limit, Mason Mount has a time limit, Leny Yoro has a real time limit.
‘So we have to manage winning games, a different methodology, different way of playing, more meters to press.
‘Tomorrow we have to assess the guys and [if] they have a little bit risk of injury, they will not play. So we have to have everyone to work, to play and to improve the squad.’
Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo and Joshua Zirkzee, who shone in the 4-0 win over Everton on Sunday, were all named among the substitutes before coming off the bench in the second-half.
United return to action at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.
