Ruud van Nistelrooy has been backed to land the Leicester City manager’s job after Steve Cooper was sacked on 24 November.
This is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who was instrumental in bringing the former striker to Old Trafford, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the boss is keen to remain in England after his interim spell at United.
Cooper was dismissed following the Foxes’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the King Power Stadium, and have now begun the process of identifying his replacement.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 24 November that the Leicester players had been heavily critical of the boss following an owner-led dressing room inquest.
The manager’s tactics were heavily criticised, while sources told Football Insider as early as September that he was failing to win over the players.
Brown, however, has insisted that Van Nistelrooy has been able to establish positive rapports with the players in his previous jobs and should be able to do so again.
On top of that, the Dutchman was described as “a fantastic bloke” with a “very impressive CV”, placing him firmly in the running to take over from Cooper.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Van Nistelrooy has “all the right attributes” to become a top boss in the future amid links with the Coventry City job.
Now, the former Man United scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with managers including Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson, has insisted that he would be a “very good” option for the Foxes to replace Cooper.
“He would be a very good option for them,” he told Football Insider.
“I’m sure it’s one he’ll be interested in because he wants to stay in England.
“I’ve got a lot of faith in Ruud, he’s a fantastic bloke and, from what I hear, a very good manager.
“He gets on well with the players, he can build a strong rapport and he’s built up a very impressive CV from his time in Holland and at Man United.
“Whether he’s the one they’ll go for, I don’t know, but he’ll be in the running.
“I think Leicester are in a bit of trouble this season, and it will depend on what they want.
“If he goes in and keeps them up and gets the players playing, he’ll have done a good job.
“But you have to ask what they want from the manager and whether it’s a stable situation to be heading into at this stage.”
