'Sad to admit...' - Wenham shares 'significant' worry about Tottenham star Micky van de Ven

John Wenham thinks Micky van de Ven’s constant injury setbacks will prevent the Tottenham defender from fulfilling his potential.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is concerned by the frequency at which the Dutchman suffers from hamstring injuries.

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that van de Ven is expected to be out until mid-December due to yet another hamstring injury, his third since arriving in North London [via Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 21 November].

Therefore, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the 23-year-old will struggle to become a top centre-back in world football.

“Van de Ven seems to get injured a lot, which is a concern,” Wenham said.

“He picks up a lot of these hamstring injuries. It is disappointing and while it might be sad to admit, that could be what stops him from reaching his true potential.

“That could be what stops him from becoming one of the world’s best centre-backs. If he is picking up multiple injuries a season, it rules him out for significant chunks of time.”

Micky van de Ven unable to fulfil his potential at Tottenham?

Van de Ven has been a revelation since signing for Tottenham. However, he missed a large chunk of last season through injury and has already been out for a month this term.

Therefore, it would be hard to describe the centre-back as one of the Premier League’s best due to how often he is unavailable.

This is an issue for Postecoglou, who certainly isn’t short of injury woes in North London at the moment.

However, while van de Ven’s constant setbacks might be a concern, Spurs do have some talented youngsters coming through, including a promising centre-back, which might offer a glimmer of hope.
