Everton have been backed to gain at least a point in the Merseyside derby on Saturday (7 December) in a bid to lower the pressure on Sean Dyche.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, believes the most important thing for Everton is to “stay in the Premier League.”
The Merseyside giants have only won three games in the Premier League this season and sit 15th, with a five-point gap between them and the relegation zone.
Everton’s poor start to the season has put serious pressure on Dyche and his future at the football club, which Robinson believes will be brought into question after their upcoming difficult run.
Sean Dyche will be under pressure at Everton moving forward
“The important thing is this season that they stay in the Premier League,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“So I question, you know, the warranty of replacing the manager when you’ve got a tried and tested, proven manager who knows the league, he knows how to stay in the league.
“All you’ve got to do this season is stay in the league because where you are now, you’re on 14 points after 14 games.
“A long way off any type of European football.
“Relegation, is it still in the conversation, who would you employ?
“You’d employ a David Moyes or a Sean Dyche to keep you in the Premier League.
“He’s out of contract in the summer, that may be a situation that works for everybody.
“Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at 12.30 on Saturday, they’ll get a draw in that game put that on record now.
“The next few games. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, so there’s a few big games in there I don’t think immediately we’re talking about Sean Dyche’s future.
“But when they’ve played Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City after a Liverpool game, there may be the conversation may grow some legs.”
