SFA set to make admission to Rangers - report

The Scottish Football Association are preparing to tell Rangers that they should have been given a penalty in the League Cup final against Celtic, according to The Scottish Sun.

The news outlet reported [17 December] that both the VAR official and linesman involved in the controversial incident on Sunday [15 December] won’t be on duty in any fixtures this weekend.

During the game against Celtic, which Rangers lost 5-4 on penalties after a 3-3 draw, the Gers felt they should have been given a penalty after Vaclav Cerny was fouled on the 18-yard line.

Referee John Beaton awarded a free-kick after the foul, which the VAR officials Alan Muir and Frank Connor failed to advise Beaton to review.

New Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart, who officially started his role on Monday [16 December], has already demanded answers from the SFA and it seems he will be getting the answers he wants.

Rangers won’t feel much better from SFA apology

With an admission that the Gers were deserving of a penalty set to be delivered, that will give Stewart the answers he was looking for proving that the staff at Ibrox were right to be outraged by the game-changing decision.

However, this admission doesn’t change anything about how the game went and therefore it won’t be much of a consolation, as it comes too little too late.

While it isn’t assured that Rangers would have scored a penalty if given one, it was a huge moment in a contest of such fine margins at Hampden.

Although there is no use in dwelling over a game that has been and gone, a victory for Philippe Clement’s side on Sunday would no doubt have served as a big boost to the team and supporters and could have given them momentum to take forward into league action.

Nevertheless, the Gers should be glad that they are getting the admission they were seeking and can use some of the positivity from the fact they gave Celtic a game to take them forward now.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have been given an answer on a transfer deal with Keelan Adams following an admission from the Falkirk boss.
