Steven Thompson believes Nice were “shocking” in their defending as Rangers secured a 4-1 victory on Thursday night.
The Gers secured a famous win on the road in the Europa League on 28 November thanks to strikes from Vaclav Cerny, Mohamed Diomande and a Hamza Igamane double.
Philippe Clement’s side arguably should have scored more at the Allianz Riviera due to the poor showing from the home side, which Thompson slated live on BBC Sportsound (28 November, 8:37pm).
He said: “It’s shocking defending from Nice all around. You talked about a lack of quality and I totally agree.
“I don’t see this side having any real structure of playing. There’s no conviction to them and they’re all over the place. There’s no midfielder around Cerny.”

There is no doubt that the Ligue 1 outfit were far from their best against the Light Blues, constantly leaving their defensive line exposed throughout the clash.
This afforded plenty of space for the likes of Cerny, Diomande and Igamane, who all took advantage in the first half in particular.
It says a lot that the likes of Nedim Bajrami, Ross McCausland and Cyriel Dessers will have been disappointed not to have got on the scoresheet themselves.
The latter did miss the best chance of the night, side-footing an effort wide of the post from less than six yards out in unbelievable fashion.
On another day Rangers score six or seven but regardless of that, this was just the result and performance that Clement needed after a rough few months at Ibrox.
This result and scoreline need to act as a springboard for the Belgian as his side looks to catch up with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
In other Rangers news, questions have been raised regarding Mohamed Diomande after what’s happened recently.
