Sky reporter shares ‘Very Concerned’ Dyche verdict from Everton training ground

Sean Dyche is “very concerned” that Everton and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in particular are failing to score enough goals, according to Alan Irwin.

The journalist reported live on Sky Sports News from Finch Farm (29 November, 2:38pm) that Dyche knows full well that the Toffees can’t expect to win matches if they continue to flounder in front of goal.

Dyche’s Blues are the Premier League’s joint second-lowest scorers so far this season with just 10 to their name, and of that total Calvert-Lewin has just two, the last of which came in mid-September.

Asked how concerned Dyche is about lack of goals, Irwin said: “I think he will be very concerned, albeit he didn’t show it when I spoke to him a while ago.

“It’s three games without a goal and he knows goals win matches – the fact of the manner is Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored in eight Premier League games.”

Although Calvert-Lewin hasn’t found the net in his last eight matches, the 27-year-old has still started all 12 Premier League games for the Toffees this season as they sit precariously in 15th place.

The last goal Evertonians were able to cheer came three games ago, with Beto’s 94th-minute strike sealing a point for the Toffees against Fulham, yet the Guinea-Bissau striker is yet to be given a look-in.

All eight of Beto’s Premier League appearances this term have come off the bench, and despite Calvert-Lewin looking less and less likely to make a difference, Dyche seems wedded to starting his number nine.

With injured loanee Armando Broja still on the long road back to first-team contention and Beto’s lack of game-time sparking transfer rumours, Dyche’s loyalty to Calvert-Lewin could prove to be his undoing.

Calvert-Lewin’s contractual situation is yet to make much progress as his goals have dried up, and with wolves already at the door for Dyche, his decision on the striker’s future is shaping up to be crucial.
