'Slowly moving on' - King moots Everton deadline for Dele Alli return after latest setback

Bryan King expects Everton to give up on a Dele Alli return if no significant progress is made by Christmas.

The ex-Goodison scout has praised the Toffees for the loyalty they have shown the player.

Alli has continued to train at Finch Farm despite his Everton deal expiring on 30 June. The Toffees intend to offer the 28-year-old a new deal if he can prove his fitness (Joe Thomas via Royal Blue on YouTube, 4 October, 19:00).

However, the ex-Tottenham star has suffered a slight setback in his recovery (via Joe Thomas on X, 3 October).

Therefore, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has speculated that Everton might be starting to think about moving on.

“I think they have shown a lot of loyalty to Alli,” King said.

“He lost his way in football, and it’s a long road for him to come back. I do hope he does get back to playing because he was a very talented player.

“However, the way he lost his way and his form, I don’t think that will come back easily. It will be a long rehabilitation.

“I think the club are slowly moving on, and they’re looking at both sides of it. If he gets himself fit, okay, but the club can’t bank on him being a player who will win them matches and save them from relegation because he hasn’t played.

“If there isn’t movement by Christmas, then I think Everton might have to call it a day.”

Everton to give up on Dele Alli return by Christmas?

There is likely very little harm to Everton in allowing Alli to use their facilities. They no doubt have the space, and his presence isn’t necessarily a great hindrance to the club.

However, there comes a point where it is only fair for both the player and club that a decision on his future is made.

Everton
Dele Alli is yet to play a professional game for Everton under Sean Dyche.

Talks of a brand-new contract can’t hang in the air forever. Eventually, something needs to give, which this latest setback at Finch Farm has emphasised.

In other Everton news, one manager linked with the club has sparked speculation after what he did recently.
