Nimfasha Berchimas set to train with Manchester United
MLS outfit Charlotte FC have agreed to let Nimfasha Berchimas train with Manchester United next month, sources have confirmed to TBR Football.
Man United are hoping to seal a deal for the 16-year-old forward, but it is believed that Berchimas and his family are not ready to commit to any club at this stage.
Berchimas is considered one of the brightest talents to emerge from the American system in a long time, and despite his age, he made his senior debut with Charlotte this season – playing four times.
He trained with Bayern Munich in 2022 and we can confirm that there is also interest from Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
The teenager has now agreed to travel to England next week and will train with United, and the Red Devils hope that the trip will go some way to convincing him that his future lies at Old Trafford.
Berchimas turns 17 in February, but because of his age he could not move to Europe until the summer of 2026 – but United are looking at agreeing a deal before that point.
With the January transfer window coming up, Man United have the opportunity to strengthen both their first-team ranks and their youth ranks.
However, the Red Devils must also watch out for other clubs trying to sign their players, with Real Madrid now looking at Lisandro Martinez.
Nimfasha Berchimas factfile and style of play
Berchimas was born in Burundi on 22 February 2008 and moved to the United States as a child, settling in High Point, North Carolina.
He began his footballing journey with local outfit NC Fusion before signing with Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC in 2020.
After rising through the ranks and shining for Charlotte FC’s MLS Next Pro side Crown Legacy FC, Berchimas made his senior debut for the first-team on 24 February 2024.
By featuring Charlotte FC’s 1–0 victory against New York City FC, he became the 9th youngest player in MLS history.
Berchimas has also impressed for the United States at youth level and made a name for himself in the Under-17s side at the U17 World Cup last year, scoring three goals in four games.
The young winger is now playing for the USMNT’s Under-20s and his future looks incredibly bright.
Goal.com wrote in April this year: “A talented young winger, Berchimas is physically advanced for his age, giving him the ability to play against players much older than him.
“He has a quick first step and can change direction quickly, which allows him to beat defenders off the dribble with ease.
“In terms of finishing, Berchimas has also shown he can do so at a high level at the World Cup, where he stood out playing against players much older than him.
“His decision-making is also impressive for a player as young as he is.
“For Berchimas, the key will be development, both physical and mental.
“As he adjusts to even higher levels of the game, how will he adjust to not being one of the more dominant players on the field?
“If he keeps adding things to his game, though, he’ll be able to go toe-to-toe with anyone in his path.
