The Premier League may have to pay out a “substantial” fee to Man City for damages if they win their legal battle.
That is the view of former City financial advisor Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that a separate panel will decide how much the Premier League will have to pay out if City’s case is successful.
The reigning Premier League champions have challenged the existing associated party transaction rules, calling the regulations “unlawful”.
City are set to begin a two-week hearing on the matter on Monday (10 June) with a verdict expected before the start of the 2024-25 season.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (5 June) that Man City will seek to be paid “millions” in damages if their APT case is successful.

Borson explained that the case will be a split trial where City will seek damages if they are found to be right in their challenge against APT rules.
“There is going to be effectively what would be known in the outside world as a split trial where you establish liability,” Borson told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“If City are right and they have been prejudiced by an unlawful set of rules, there will then be a follow-on hearing where loss and causation will be assessed by an arbitration panel where City will seek damages.
“That will clearly depend on whether City have had sponsorship proposals that have been rejected because of the rule in place.
“If that is the case I think it’s more than possible that City would receive damages that could be quite substantial.
“But I do think cases like this are very hard to win in the first instance.“
