Ben Chilwell is a “more realistic” loan signing for Everton ahead of the January transfer window, according to Stefan Borson.

Evertonians will be looking forward to the upcoming transfer window, especially after The Friedkin Group’s takeover was confirmed, and rumours are already beginning to swirl.

Full-back is one of the weakest aspects of Sean Dyche’s squad, especially with Vitaliy Mykolenko the only option on the left-hand side, and now Chilwell has been tipped for a move to Goodison Park.

Taking to X [21 December], Borson wrote: “Players like Ben Chilwell on loan are more realistic January signings.”

Everton to strike deal for Ben Chilwell in January transfer window?

A new defensive signing would certainly make a lot of sense for the Toffees in January. Signing Chilwell, however, would only add more pressure to the club’s medical staff.

Dyche’s team has been stung by several injury woes during the 2024/25 campaign, but with The Friedkin Group’s takeover now completed, there is an overall sense of positivity at Goodison Park.

With the new owners now in place, the manager should be making requests ahead of the January transfer window, with one or two “surprises” predicted [Alan Myers], but those should come in attack.

The Toffees have struggled for goals over the last few seasons now, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto failing to hit the back of the net on a regular basis this term. It is really no surprise.

That is exactly why Dyche’s focus should be on the final third rather than looking into a player such as Chelsea’s Chilwell, who is regularly receiving treatment for a brand-new injury setback.

The 28-year-old has not played a single minute of football since September, making any potential move to Goodison Park a brainless decision ahead of January.
