Rangers are facing a “very toxic” situation emerging if they can’t quickly resolve their boardroom issues at Ibrox.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it becomes very hard to communicate effectively around what’s going on if there is no leadership at the club.
Former Rangers director John Gilligan is temporarily filling in as chairman after John Bennett stood down on health grounds last month, while the club are also without a CEO following James Bisgrove’s departure earlier this year.
The Scottish Sun reported on 8 October Creag Robertson has now quit his role as director of football operations and is expected to leave Ibrox before the end of this year.
Rangers have endured a difficult start to the season as they currently sit five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership table, while they lost 4-1 to Lyon in their latest Europa League game.
That has led to speculation around manager Philippe Clement’s position after the early progress he made has stalled in recent months.
Rangers fans will soon be ‘very unhappy’ after boardroom update
Borson revealed the Rangers fans will soon be “very unhappy” if the issues aren’t quickly resolved at Ibrox.
He told Football Insider: “It’s a problem all round because if you have got this sort of flux, clearly you have got no leadership.
“But it’s also very hard to even communicate in an effective way to explain what’s happening, why they might be having problems on the pitch, why it makes a difference if your revenue is £50million, £75million or even £100million less than Celtic this season, and what that means to the wage bill you can afford and what that means to how you perform on the pitch.
“All of this communication is really difficult when you have got no leadership.
“They need to resolve it step by step and as quickly as possible, otherwise, the whole thing is going to spiral.
“They are going to have a very unhappy fanbase.
“We have seen it in loads of clubs over the years, we know what happens in that situation.
“The whole thing becomes very toxic.”
