Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor may have agreed to sell his 45% stake in the club – but first refusal could be given to the other shareholders.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the US businessman may also have “exaggerated” how close he was to striking a deal.
Textor told Sky Sports last month (12 September) that his Eagle Football group was “into the final week or two of knowing who the buyer will be” for his Crystal Palace stake.
But almost six weeks on from that declaration, no details of that deal have been made available.
The uncertainty comes with Eagle now 16 weeks overdue in providing its accounts for the latest financial year.
Textor had been keen to sell his Palace stake and buy Everton but has been gazumped in that process by The Friedkin Group, who are close to taking full control at Goodison Park.
Josh Harris, David Blitzer, Robert Franco and Steve Parish – who runs the club day-to-day – own the remaining shares at Selhurst Park.
Textor may have already agreed Crystal Palace takeover deal, says Borson
Borson claimed it is “not completely clear” what the long-term plan is for Textor and Eagle.
He told Football Insider: “The whole Eagle Football thing is one to watch.
“We’ve got decent visibility because of the Lyon situation, and the fact that Eagle is listed.
“We do get a lot of information.
“It’s not completely clear what their game is long-term. If you were to go back six weeks, you had Textor saying he was close to selling his Palace share.
“We’re now six weeks on and there is no sign of that happening, there are no rumours.
“He may have done a deal and first refusal has been given to the other shareholders.
“Maybe that’s happening, or maybe he exaggerated how close he is to doing that deal.”
