'Strange' - Wenham baffled by 'Unusual' thing he saw big-name Tottenham star do v Brentford

John Wenham was confused by Son Heung-min’s reluctance to shoot as Spurs beat Brentford 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (21 September).

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose described the South Korean’s performance as “a bit strange.”

Son played the full 90 minutes against the Bees, providing two assists as Ange Postecoglou’s side recorded their second Premier League win of the season. However, the 31-year-old failed to get on the scoresheet himself.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes there were chances for Son to find the back of the net.

“I thought Son’s performance was a bit strange,” Wenham said.

“He was put through on goal twice. However, he opted to delay instead of shooting both times, which was unusual for him. Son is one of the best finishers in world football.

“Therefore, this is probably a confidence thing. However, I’m sure the goals will come for him soon. Hopefully starting against either Qarabağ or Manchester United.”

Son has scored just twice in five Premier League appearances this season. Both of those goals came in the 4-0 win over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (24 August).

The Tottenham star hasn’t been at his best this season for club or country.

Therefore, Postecoglou will be desperate to see his captain get back among the goals. As a result, playing him in the UEFA Europa League against Qarabağ FK on Thursday (26 September) could be a smart idea.

Should Son be able to grab a goal or two against the team from Azerbaijan, it could boost his confidence, just in time for the trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Sunday (29 September).
