The Super Eagles have opened their training camp in Uyo ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against Libya.
Nine players are already present as Coach Austin Eguavoen’s squad gears up for the encounter later this week.
Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze, Lazio’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Augsburg’s Frank Onyeka, Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika, Crawley Town’s Benjamin Tanimu, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface all arrived in camp this morning.
According to team officials, a full complement of players is expected before the first training session, scheduled to begin at 5 pm today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Amas Obasogie were among the first to check in on Monday, as the Super Eagles aim to kick-start preparations for their AFCON qualification campaign.
No fewer than 20 players are expected to participate in today’s session, which will be open to the public.
The camp continues to gather momentum as Nigeria look to strengthen its position in Group D.
However, the team will be without key striker Victor Osimhen and defender Olisa Ndah, who are unavailable for this set of qualifiers.
Despite this, the squad is focused on securing maximum points against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya, who currently sit at the bottom of the group with just one point from two matches.
Libya’s head coach, Nasser Al-Hadiri, has admitted that a victory against Nigeria will be challenging but emphasised that a draw would be a positive result for his side as they seek to stay in the qualification race.
The first match of the doubleheader is set for Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
