Chelsea have shifted their focus to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen after their attempt to sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion reportedly fell through, Soccernet.ng understands.
The Blues had initially agreed on a deal worth around €35 million for the 20-year-old Omorodion, who is a Spanish youth international but remains eligible to play for Nigeria.
The transfer also involved Conor Gallagher heading to Atletico Madrid, with the English midfielder already in Spain. However, negotiations with Omorodion stalled due to his involvement in the Olympics, where Spain secured a gold medal.
Following the conclusion of the Olympics, talks between Chelsea and Omorodion resumed but reportedly hit an impasse due to undisclosed complications in the final terms of the agreement. As a result, the deal is now off the table.
With the Omorodion move now in doubt, Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to signing Victor Osimhen, according to El Chiringuito TV.
The Super Eagles striker has been a long-term target for the club, and the recent developments have elevated him to their top priority.
Osimhen, who has been attracting interest from other clubs including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, has been preparing for his exit from Napoli.
The 24-year-old has trained with the team during preseason but has not featured in any matches. He was also excluded from Napoli’s squad for their first official match of the season, fuelling speculation that his departure is imminent.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Osimhen signals their intent to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
