Falkirk boss John McGlynn admits he would be “surprised” if there were no interest in Rangers transfer target Keelan Adams but insists there is no need to sell.

The former Ibrox academy prospect has emerged on Philippe Clement’s shortlist ahead of the January transfer window [Rangers News] as the Gers expand their search for a long-term James Tavernier successor.

McGlynn has responded to the interest in his right-back to the Falkirk Herald [16 December], making it clear the club are in no need to sell in the January transfer window in a blow to the Gers.

He said: “I’d be surprised if there wasn’t [interest] in Keelan because he has been so good. I’d be disappointed if there was no interest.

“Whether it materialises into anything, who knows. Certainly, no one has came to me yet and enquired.

“We’re very happy with Keelan and that’s why we extended his contract by a year. We hope for him to be here for the foreseeable and certainly beyond this window. It is all good so far.

“We’ve brought in money financially from our cup runs and our fans backing. We’ve played Celtic and Hearts and that has brought in money – we don’t need to sell.”

Rangers may have to wait to pry Keelan Adams from Falkirk

The term “strong financial position” is not one Rangers are all too familiar with, and it could be that the Gers are priced out of a move for Adams.

Adams has developed into one of the brightest prospects in the Scottish Championship since he was released at Auchenhowie and has contributed three goals and five assists for Falkirk in 23 appearances.

Rangers desperately need to bolster the right-back position as Feyenoord loanee Neraysho Kasanwirjo is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to injury and captain Tavernier is potentially heading towards the exit door at Ibrox.

The 33-year-old has returned to the first-team fold as of late after losing his place at the Gers to Dujon Sterling, but the issues regarding his ability to lead the side still remain, and it appears his future is set in stone in Glasgow.

However, given McGlynn’s stance on Adams, should the full-back be the number one target for Clement, Tavernier could be allowed to see out the remainder of what would be his final year at Rangers until the side are in a position to afford his replacement.

With English Championship outfits Leeds United and Swansea also in the race for Adams, there will undoubtedly be plenty of twists and turns before this saga is concluded.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are in huge trouble as a John Souttar injury update emerges after the Celtic loss.
