Germany built on their 5-1 win over Scotland in the tournament's opening game with a 2-0 defeat of Hungary that saw them secure progress to the knockout stages with a game to spare. On three of the four previous occasions on which Germany have started a Euro with two wins from two, they have gone on to be crowned European champions, and with a deep run into the tournament in mind, Nagelsmann could be tempted to make good use of his squad, with Pascal Groß and Niclas Füllkrug candidates to start. One man unlikely to be rested is goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. After spending much of the opening game watching his teammates run riot in Munich, the Bayern Munich icon was exceptional against Hungary, making some big early saves to provide the platform for the win. "We can thank Manuel Neuer," said Antonio Rüdiger, who - with his unfortuante own-goal for Scotland - is the only man to have beaten the Germany number No.1 at the tournament so far. "He made some great saves and kept us in the game," added Stuttgart's Maximilian Mittelstädt. "That's the reason he's there. He gives us a good feeling as we know he's behind us."

Switzerland have avoided defeat to Germany in the duo's last three contests, and a point for Murat Yakin's team will see them join their opponents in the Round of 16 while confirming the hosts as Group A winners. The Euro 2020 quarter-finalists should feature a host of familiar faces to Bundesliga fans in their line-up at Deutsche Bank Park, notably goalkeeper Yann Sommer (ex-Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern), defenders Manuel Akanji (ex-Borussia Dortmund), and Ricardo Rodriguez (ex-Wolfsburg), as well as forward Xherdan Shaqiri (ex-Bayern). Current Bundesliga players Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen) and Ruben Vargas (Augsburg), who has shaken off a blow to a foot, and Silvan Widmer (Mainz) are also both likely to retain their places in the starting XI from the 1-1 draw with Scotland last time out. Another former Bundesliga player, ex-Hoffenheim man Fabian Schär, should play despite breaking his nose on Matchday 2.
