Gordon Dalziel has warned Rangers against Tottenham as they prepare to host Ange Postecoglou’s side at Ibrox in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
The former Light Blues striker believes Postecoglou will have his Spurs players “fired up” after receiving the “dreaded” vote of confidence from the North London outfit’s hierarchy.
However, he feels it would be “fitting” if the Gers were to put the final nail in the coffin for the Greek-Australian due to his association with Celtic.
“If you look at the game against Chelsea, they’re conceding goals for fun, but the manager ain’t going to change his style”, Dalziel said on Clyde1 Superscoreboard [Tuesday, 10 December].
“Wouldn’t it be fitting if Postecoglou lost his job for a result against Rangers? You’d never have thought that would have happened at Celtic.
“Look, they’ve got injuries, they’re up and down just now. Postecoglou is under a little bit of pressure that he’s been given the dreaded vote of confidence, the board have come out and said over the festive period, he’s not under pressure, let’s see how he goes.
“He will have his players fired up. That will be a terrific game at Ibrox.”
Rangers to give Postecoglou fitting farewell amid ‘dreaded’ verdict at Tottenham
Philippe Clement’s side will be high on confidence going into the game on Thursday, having won each of their last four games across all competitions while scoring 14 goals in the process.
Spurs, meanwhile, are winless in as many games and go into the match at Ibrox on the back of a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea at home on Sunday [8 December].
The Gers, therefore, have the chance to cause an upset over the Premier League giants, while also possibly handing a major blow to Postecoglou’s future there.
Tottenham are likely to stick to their high-risk, high-reward football, meaning the hosts can hurt them against the run of play and on the counter.
However, it would be naive of the Glasgow giants to take Postecoglou and co lightly just because they are on a poor run of form.
Clement has also revealed that Rangers will be without three first-team players on Thursday.
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have set their sights on signing this defender who was previously at Ibrox.
