McManus told PLZ Soccer on 6 December at 3:25: “I think it’s difficult to police.
“I think that you’ve got to start maybe looking at deducting points and stuff like that I think that’s the only way you’re going to stop people from doing it as you said it’s difficult.
“Are they going to really search every single person that goes into a stadium? I don’t think so.”
Rangers may pay the price for the actions of a few fans
If the use of pyrotechnics by fans at football matches escalates, the SPFL might indeed consider severe measures like points deductions for clubs.
This approach aims to curb the dangerous behaviour by making clubs directly accountable for their supporters’ actions, thereby incentivising stricter enforcement of stadium regulations.
Clement’s public appeal for Rangers fans to cease using pyrotechnics is a proactive step, highlighting the need for fan behaviour to align with safety standards.
Such incidents not only pose a risk to public safety but also disrupt the game’s spirit.
The Belgian’s stance is commendable as it addresses an issue that transcends competitive rivalry, focusing on ensuring the safety and integrity of football matches.
The collective effort from clubs and fans is essential to put an end to this hazardous practice, safeguarding the game’s environment for everyone involved.
In other Rangers news, a £10million development has emerged as restructuring is on the cards behind the scenes.
