Bryan King is concerned about the standard of coaching for goalkeepers in the English game after questioning Jordan Pickford’s recent performances for England and Everton.
And ex-Goodison scout King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – can’t see things improving for the 30-year-old anytime soon.
“It worries me about the standard of coaching for goalkeepers,” King said.
“Things are not improving, there is just a lot of technical jargon. I’m afraid Pickford has not had a good time for me with Everton or England.
“I remember when he arrived at Everton and first got into the England side, people thought this was a goalkeeper that would win something. However, it hasn’t happened yet and I can’t see it happening in the future.
“It’s not that I like criticising him, because he is a fellow goalkeeper as I was. However, the thing that worries me, is he is just not as good as I’d expect somebody with 73 England caps, playing regular Premier League football, to be.”
Jordan Pickford struggling for Everton and England?
It has not been the best of seasons so far for Pickford. The goalkeeper has made some high-profile mistakes, struggling for form with both club and country.
Therefore, it is only natural that questions will be asked of the shot-stopper.
However, all he can do is respond on the pitch and look to improve his performance levels. Pickford has been a hero for England and Everton many times over the years.
Therefore, he must rediscover that form and begin to showcase it consistently.
