'Things are starting to move' - David Edgar reacts to James Tavernier exit updates at Rangers

Rangers defender James Tavernier has been linked with an exit and Heart and Hand’s David Egar has issued a verdict on the situation at the club.

Fabrizio Romano reported on X on 18 July that Trabzonspor had sent a formal proposal to sign the English defender this summer.

Philippe Clement recently admitted that sales are needed to fund incomings and Edgar believes that things are now starting to move with regard to outgoings

Along with Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Cyriel Dessers and Ben Davies have also been linked with exits. [Andy Devlin, 12 July]

Edgar wrote: “Looks like things are starting to move.”

Rangers must not be sentimental and cash in on James Tavernier

Gers must not be sentimental and should consider cashing in on Tavernier as he is 32 years old and his value may decrease as he ages.

Selling him now could provide the Ibrox outfit with a significant transfer fee that can be reinvested in the squad.

The Englishman’s departure could allow Rangers to fast-track the development of younger right-backs and potentially give Dujon Sterling a run of games there.

Providing him and others with more playing time and experience could be beneficial for the club’s long-term prospects.

To fast-track Tavernier’s exit, Gers should negotiate with interested clubs to reach a suitable transfer fee.

They should also communicate with Tavernier to understand his perspective and potentially facilitate a smooth transition.

Furthermore, it’s important they have a plan in place to replace Tavernier, whether that involves promoting a youth player or signing a new right-back.

In other Rangers news, an Ibrox-linked player has been punished by his club as Gers have made inroads towards securing his transfer.
