Three ways Ange Postecoglou can utilise Archie Gray at Tottenham Hotspur as £40m transfer looms

Archie Gray is set to make the switch from Leeds United to Tottenham Hotspur, but will he find a place in Ange’s squad?

Tottenham Hotspur have seemingly sealed the deal on a move for 18-year-old prospect Archie Gray, it seems all that is left to do is announce the deal.

This comes after TBR Football exclusively revealed that Joe Rodon could be headed in the opposite direction as part of the deal. This also comes amidst interest from a host of other clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool.

The fee for the transfer is set to be in the region of around £40 million, and the deal is set to be a long-term one. Here are three ways would could possibly see Gray line up for Spurs in the years to come.

Backup to Pedro Porro at right-back

With Gray’s young age and only one season of experience in professional experience under his belt, it is unlikely that he will step into the first-team picture at Tottenham straight away.

With rumours persisting of Emerson Royal’s departure from the North London club, it is very possible that the English youngster could fill the gap left by the Brazilian and become a backup to Spaniard Pedro Porro at right-back.

This allows him to continue in his most natural position from his time at Leeds, as well as gain vital minutes when Ange rotates the squad for cup matches and midweek fixtures.

An option for Ange Postecoglou in defensive midfield?

One thing the £40 million man has going for him is his versatility, as he can play at right-back whilst also venturing forward into defensive midfield and sitting in front of the defence.

Many Spurs fans have been vocal about the club’s lack of a world-class defensive midfielder for a while now, so the opportunity to build a young prospect from the ground up to fulfill this role could be considered.

He would also have the opportunity to gain experience playing alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as he enters the prime of his career.

Archie Gray can make his presence felt in the middle of the park

Tottenham may see the 18-year-old’s potential as a more advanced midfielder from his time in Leeds’ academy and may look to have him carve out a place more centrally.

When a player with potential like Gray comes along, many teams feel as though their talents may be wasted further back the pitch, so Spurs could look to bring him forward into the heart of midfield.

One thing is for sure, with the sizable investment Tottenham are paying to secure Gray’s signature, they will want him to start getting experience as quickly as possible.
