Timo Werner looks destined to exit Tottenham as Man United transfer news emerges

Timo Wener has been an underwhelming addition to the Tottenham squad, and it looks like his time in North London is about to end with some exciting transfer news emerging.

Spurs signed the Germany international in January 2024 but extended his loan deal this summer, which includes a £8.5 million option to buy at the end of the season [BBC, 28 May].

The 28-year-old has been a decent addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad, with his pace instrumental at times in helping the Lilywhites on the counter.

Werner has failed to make a significant mark at Tottenham, though, and has started just two games in the Premier League for the North Londoners in the current campaign.

What has frustrated many of the Spurs faithful has been the German’s profligacy in front of goal, which was evident during his time at Chelsea.

Malik Tillman could replace Timo Werner at Tottenham

Werner could be set for the exit door as the North Londoners have their eyes on Malik Tillman, who Manchester United are also interested in, according to GiveMeSport.

Tottenham, along with the Red Devils, are thinking about bringing the attacker to the English top flight, and if the Lilywhites do so, then triggering the option to buy Werner would be pointless.

Tillman is one of the biggest emerging talents in the Netherlands and has already been capped 17 times by the USA national team.

The 22-year-old is a versatile playmaker, capable of playing in the middle of the park or the attack, with most of his appearances coming on the left wing this season.

Wener has had his moments in a white shirt but has been an overall disappointing signing — a common theme of the Daniel Levy era.

If the Spurs chairman were to complete a deal for Tillman, though, that would have the potential to go down as a decent signing.
