Gary Keown has slammed Rangers for spending over £12million on New Edmiston House after John Gilligan confirmed it won’t host next month’s AGM.

The building just outside Ibrox has been described as a “state-of-the-art event facility” and a “fantastic events space” by the club [Rangers.co.uk].

Despite this, the interim chairman has revealed that the upcoming club AGM won’t be held there which has left Gary Keown raging in his column for the Daily Mail (27 October).

He said: “Another project hampered by delays was the construction of New Edmiston House beside Ibrox Stadium. Gilligan stated in his sitdown with the FAB on October 16 that it would not host next month’s club AGM, with an alternative venue being sourced.

“New Edmiston House cost north of £12million to build. Yet, it looks like it’s too wee to host an AGM and, this year, witnessed the likes of the club’s Player of the Year dinner taking place in a hotel in the city centre.

“Spending millions on a purpose-built facility and then having to pay even more to rent other spaces for your highest-profile events is just bonkers. Totally unfathomable.”

Rangers make ‘Bonkers’ New Edmiston House decision

The Gers have had plenty of issues in recent months which have just piled additional pressures on Philippe Clement and the boardroom members.

Results on the pitch haven’t been exactly what supporters have wanted with defeats against Celtic and Kilmarnock being particular low points.

The Europa League win against FCSB has eased some concerns but it appears that off-the-pitch issues are still rife at Ibrox.

There has been a lack of funds available to spend on the playing squad for Clement but the club still spent huge sums on New Edmiston House.

This facility features the club shop, museum among other things but it is clear that it is not fit for purpose as an event space for the club, which is a huge issue given the money forked out.

It says it all for the state of the club that they are spending money on events which could be better spent elsewhere while they have a purpose-built space that they aren’t using.

It is just another bizarre decision from the boardroom which from the outside looking in, fans can’t quite get their heads around.

In other Rangers news, Dave King could break his cover yet again within days at Ibrox ahead of the Aberdeen clash.
